Johnny Lynch aka Pictish Trail kündigt heute mit „Thumb World“ sein neues Album für den 21. Februar 2020 an. „Thumb World“ ist der erste Full-Length-Output von Pictish Trail seit vier Jahren. Gleichzeitig enthüllt Johnny mit „Turning Back“ eine neue Single des Albums, es ist nach „Slow Memories“ bereits die zweite Auskopplung vom neuen Album.
 
„Probably the most deliberately ‘pop’ moment on the album, „Turning Back“ is about replaying the moment you meet someone and wanting to live it over and over again. There’s a refrain - „Hour’s turning back / I was turning back” - imagining the clock hands spinning backwards, at the end of Daylight-Saving Time. In a sort of Black Mirror-esque tribute, the reveal is that the other person is also controlling the moment, rewinding and rewatching. „You and me trapped inside a device controlled by each other’s thumbs & minds ... I was turning back to the moment that we met in slow motion, rolling it over, and over, and over.” - Pictish Trail.
 
„Thumb World“ ist eine Reise zu den äußeren Ringen von Pictish Trails Geist in seiner dunkelsten, lustigsten und originellsten Form. Es ist mutig, seltsam, wild, verworren, klanglich luxuriös, aber nie den Kontakt zu seinen DIY-til-I-die-Wurzeln verlierend. Erwartet Entführungen von Außerirdischen, pochende Beats, Schweine mit Trump-Frisur, paternale Panik, Astronautensex, Bad Acid Trips, schlimme Kater und viele menschenähnliche Daumen.
 
Produziert und abgemischt von Rob Jones, mit Streicharrangements von Kim Moore und Schlagzeug von Alex Thomas, ist „Thumb World“ das bisher kollaborativste Album von Pictish Trail. Ein audiovisueller Dialog mit Swatpaz aka dem schottischen Künstler Davey Ferguson - dem Mann hinter der „Turbo Fantasy“ -Serie und einer ganzen Episode des Kultfernsehphänomens „Adventure Time“ - versorgte Johnny nicht nur mit einer grafischen Ästhetik für das Album, sondern half ihm auch, den Sound der fertigen Platte zu gestalten.
